Technology

Cellulose sponge production is a complex technological process which is controlled at all stages of production by advanced automation.

Wood pulp, a natural material, is converted to a non solid form, reinforcing materials and sodium sulfate crystals are added. The mixture is heated, causing the cellulose to revert to a solid in a porous form of a sponge, which is then washed and packaged for sale.

Environment

Our method of producing sponge blocks from cellulose ensures reduction of waste both through processing in the production process and reduction of emissions of harmful substances into the environment.

Wastewater is cleaned to the extent that is meets all requirements for direct discharge into the environment.
State of the art, continuous operational controls are incorporated in each technological process monitoring operational consistency and hazards detection systems.

mission.

Sponcel's mission is to provide a high-quality cellulose sponge blocks at a reasonable price to markets throughout all World; Whether for retail consumers or for industrial or specialty applications, regardless of the geographical region.

about us.

Sponcel began the construction of a cellulose sponge factory in 2015, and the first production started in 2017. Since then, we have been continuously modernizing our process, paying particular attention to the environment and workplace safety. Since 2017, the production capacity of the Sponcel plant in Bogumiłow has tripled, and today we can offer employment to around 70 people. The company continuously invests in technological equipment and plans further expansion of production capacity and warehouse space.

Environment and Innovations.

In our processes, we use intermediate products and raw materials that we continuously recycle. An example is the crystals responsible for the formation of pores in the sponge. After use, they enter a liquid phase, which is purified and concentrated. The purified solution is then reused to create crystals for pore formation in the sponge. The solutions in the washing line are processed and reused in the installation, generating minimal waste that goes to the plant's wastewater treatment facility. Water used in production for other processes is treated and purified in closed processes.
The materials used by Sponcel comply with legal requirements regarding chemicals, including REACH. Some cellulose materials are by-products of cotton production or scraps from paper towel manufacturing. Both dissolving and reinforcing cellulose pulp are supplied by certified providers who produce in accordance with FSC and/or PEFC environmental standards.

In our factory, we use many innovative technologies. An example is our own air emission treatment plant, based on naturally occurring microorganisms. These organisms convert H2S and CS2  into sulfuric acid and clean air. Air from this technological biofilter system removes contaminates up to 99% efficiency.

About the Product.

For Sponcel, product quality and environmental responsibility are joint and inseparable goals. We ensure this through:

  • using renewable materials from responsible producers
  • implementing recycling and recirculation processes
  • controlling and reducing air emissions
  • purifying and controlling wastewater
  • managing operational processes in a way that minimizes environmental impact

The technology used in the SPONCEL plant is unique on a global scale. The process is controlled at all stages of production through advanced automation, and each process installation is designed to minimize negative environmental impact.

The production of cellulose sponges is a complex, multi-stage process in which the raw material, dissolved pulp (sourced from sustainable plantations), undergoes an intricate processing procedure, transforming it into an absorbent, durable product primarily used as a cleaning item.
